Card Making Techniques

Making and sending a personalised card is not just a lovely thing to do but it really helps to reinforce to children the importance of keeping in touch with family and friends. Parents are all too aware that sadly their adorable little people will become sulky texting teenagers before too long and learning some card making skills at a young age is an invaluable skill they can always use later in life.

Enjoying some card making activities with the kids is also a great way to keep them entertained during the school holidays or as an enjoyable rainy day activity. Whilst most people like to send a card on special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries

you can make a card for something as simple as saying ‘thank you’ or even ‘sorry,’ and of course you could always make your own party invitations in this way. Another benefit is that it is always good to have a specific purpose for the artwork that you create and seeing it used is so rewarding for little crafters.

What is the best card for card making?

You could use any type of card but you will want something that is sturdy enough to stand when displayed by the recipient and equally something that will happily cope with being decorated and even painted. Baker Ross sells a variety of 220gsm card. This card is also ideal for general card making and a whole range of other arts and crafts activities. GSM simply means grams per square metre and this number gives a good indication of its quality. Most card is between 200-290gsm, so 220gsm is ideal.
