How to Make
Step 1
Start by removing the lids from two craft boxes and turning the boxes upside down. Glue them together side by side to form a rectangular tractor body. On the back of the boxes, draw a horizontal line 0.5 cm from the bottom. Take a craft box lid, turn it upside down, and glue it to the back of the box, just above the line. Then, glue a second lid behind the first one to extend the trailer area.
Step 2
Cut out templates A and B and use them to mark the wheel positions on both sides of the tractor. Make sure the lowest holes are on the front box. On the back lid (the trailer), mark the center on both sides and draw holes matching the size from the templates. Use a pencil to carefully poke through all six holes until the pencil fits through. These holes will hold the tractor’s wheels.
Step 3
Cut out template C and use it to mark the holes on the top of the back box. Draw a cross in the larger hole and poke through it, gradually widening it until a wooden person can sit snugly inside. Make a smaller hole nearby for the steering wheel and pierce it just enough to fit a pipe cleaner. These holes will hold the driver and the steering wheel.
Step 4
Take another craft box, remove the lid, and turn it upside down. Draw a frame on each side by measuring 0.5 cm from the edges and cutting out the centers, creating a window-like roof structure. Once all four sides are cut, it will resemble a table. Paint the entire tractor and roof in your chosen color. Once dry, glue the roof on top of the back box to sit above the driver and steering wheel holes.
Step 5
Trace two wooden coasters on black card and four jar lids on the same card to make six wheels. Cut out the circles and glue them onto the wooden coasters and lids. Add smaller white paper circles in the center of each to finish the wheel look. Cut two lolly sticks to 10 cm and one to 8 cm. Push them through the holes on the tractor sides, securing the wheels in place with Blu Tack or glue.
Step 6
Make a steering wheel by shaping a pipe cleaner into a small circle and pushing the other end through the small hole you made on the top. Underneath, twist it to hold it in place. To create the driver, wrap a pipe cleaner around a wooden person to make a jumper, leaving arms free. Glue on wiggle eyes, a pompom for hair, and draw a mouth. Insert the driver into the hole and place its arms on the steering wheel. Glue the roof in place. Finish by adding raffia as hay in the trailer and decorate with foam stickers, pipe cleaner wheat, and harvest-themed shapes.
