Interactive Paper Plate Bat

Top Tip

If you don’t want to create a slit in the paper plate you can paint another paper plate blue and cut roughly 1/4 off the bottom (this is the bit you will use). Stick the ¼ to the bottom of the night sky plate with glue dots at the edges only, leaving space at the bottom for the craft stick to slide through.

  1. Start by painting your plate with different shades of blue and purple, with a moon off-centre to the plate.
  2. Paint grey circle details and yellow around the edge of the moon, then add stars by flicking yellow and white paint onto the blue part of the paper plate as well as painting star shapes.
  3. When the plate is dry, draw a 10cm line with a pencil at the bottom of the plate. Then, cut along the line using scissors (get a parent to help you with this step).
  4. Using the template, cut out the bat from black card.
  5. Outline the bat with a silver deco pen.
  6. Stick two glow-in-the-dark wiggle eyes and draw two fangs with a white deco pen onto the bat.
  7. Glue two purple craft sticks together to create a longer stick.
  8. Stick the craft stick to the back of the bat and allow to dry.
  9. To finish, slide the craft stick of the bat through the slit previously created in the paper plate.
