How to Make

  1. Print out the spider template onto a sheet of white paper.
  2. Take a sheet of polystyrene and put a strip of double sided tape onto each edge. Peel off the backing and place another sheet of polystyrene on top.
  3. Repeat step 2 so that you now have three polystyrene sheets stuck together. Then use the same technique to stick a sheet of black paper on top.
  4. Lay the spider template over the top of the black paper and press a sequin pin around the template to make holes in the black paper then remove the template. At this point it may help to draw around the outline with a pencil.
  5. Place a sequin pin in each of the holes that you created in step 4. They should be about two thirds of the way in so there is still room to tie your wool around them.
  6. Take some white wool and tie a knot around one of the pins, making sure you leave about 2-3 inches of wool at the end, as you will need this later.
  7. Wrap the wool around each pin, making sure it crosses over the template in different directions. Try to make sure each pin has been used at least once and all of the thread is within the spider outline.
  8. Wrap the wool around the outside of the spider all the way around, then take it back to the pin you started with and tie a knot with the end of the wool that you left.
  9. Trim the ends of the wool to finish your design.

Top Tip

Try not to pull the string too tight, as you might pull the pins out of the backing.
