Top Tip
Arrange the strings in one direction first without glue and when you’re happy with their positions add the glue to stick them down.
How to Make
- Turn over the canvas and paint the inner edges white and the inner canvas blue. Allow to dry.
- Using a ruler, make pencil marks roughly 2.5cms apart across each side of the canvas’ edges.
- Using the pencil marks as a spacing guide, start laying the cotton string diagonally across the canvas from the top right corner.
- You can trim the cotton string as you go, but leave a little extra in case you need to adjust the position later.
- Continue across the canvas laying each string parallel to the last one until the canvas is covered.
- When you are happy that the strings are in the right places, use Super Tacky Glue to stick the ends down.
- Try to make sure all the strings are pulled straight and not hanging loose. Allow to dry.
- When you have finished in one direction, do the same thing from the top left corner, so that your strings criss-cross. Allow to dry.
- Apply double-sided tape to the bottom edge of the canvas and peel away the backing. Stick down ribbons in your colour choice along the edges.
- Repeat the last step on the two side edges and along the top, so the border is covered in ribbon.
- To make your decorative pegs, use self-adhesive buttons to stick onto the mini pegs. Peg them onto the strings to present your finished notice board.
