Top Tip
It’s easier to add felt hair and paint the eyes after the clothes and arms have been stuck onto the body, so you can see which way faces the front.
How to Make
- Paint 3 x green paper plates for the sea. Brush blue paint over the plates, leaving some green areas showing. Leave to dry then paint white waves over the top.
- Fold the sides on one painted plate, leaving a flat strip down the middle for a path across the sea. Make the flat strip 6cm wide at one edge of the plate and 3cm on the other side, to make tapering channel down the middle. Lightly paint a sandy yellow colour over the strip.
- Glue one of the painted plates under the folded plate with the path. Bend the sides up following the folds on the top plate to make a second layer of waves. Glue the third plate underneath. Fold up the sides following the folds. Crinkle the edges on the painted plates for a wavy effect.
- To make Moses, mix a flesh colour then paint the head of a wooden person. Paint the ends of a wooden craft stick for the hands. Leave to dry.
- Make the clothes from self-adhesive felt. Cut a 5cm x 5cm piece of felt, peel of the backing then stick it onto the body. Cut a 7cm x 5cm piece of felt in another colour, peel of the backing then stick it around the body as a robe with the first colour showing in between the ends.
- To make the arms, carefully cut 2cm from the ends from the painted wooden stick. Cut 2 x felt pieces 3cm x 3cm, the same colour as the robe. Peel off the backing then wrap the felt over the ends of the hands, leaving about 1cm showing at the ends. Stick the arms onto the back of the body with fabric glue or use double-sided tape.
- Cut thin white felt strips for hair and beard, peel of the backing then stick them onto the head.
- Paint 2 eyes onto the face, or use a felt pen. To make the staff, glue a thin stick onto one of the hands. Place Moses by the the sea parting the waves!
