The Science
The baking soda mixture acts as the base, while the turmeric mixture is an acid. The turmeric mixture is also a chemical indicator, meaning it changes colour depending on the pH of the base mixture. When the acid and base come together, the chemical indicator reacts, changing the colour of the base and signalling that the reaction has occurred!
How to Make
Step 1
Mix one tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda with water to dissolve.
Step 2
Use a paintbrush to write your secret message onto a card and allow it to dry completely.
Step 3
Add a sprinkle of turmeric to a small amount of alcohol and mix well.
Step 4
Paint over the dry message with the turmeric mixture to reveal your hidden words!
