Constellation Charts

If you’re teaching children about the solar system, this simple star chart project is a fun way to demonstrate the different constellations. Children can choose the constellation they want to recreate, or you can have the worksheets ready for them to join the dots.

How to Make

  1. Choose the constellation you’d like to recreate - we recommend starting with something simple and using a larger piece of cards for more intricate/larger constellations.
  2. Using the constellation image for reference, place glitter star stickers onto the card to show where the stars appear in the constellation. Do not join the star stickers up with a pen line or anything else - the finished result should just look like a random arrangement of star stickers on the card.
  3. Give children a Deco Pen and picture of the original constellation and ask them to join the stars with a line in the correct places to recreate the constellation. You can then ask them to write the name of the constellation underneath, and mount the different star charts on a ‘space’ themed wall display in a classroom or at home.

Top Tip

You could try drawing on the stars with glow in the dark paint instead of stickers, or using a larger piece of card and featuring two or more constellations on the same sheet.
