Mix your own potion and watch the magic overflow in a wash of sparkling bubbles. This process uses a chemical reaction to create an exciting STEM activity.

How to Make

Recipe:

  • 4 Tbs of baking soda at least
  • 1 tsp of washing up liquid
  • Squirt of Paint or food colouring
  • White Vinegar
  1. In your jar mix ¼ water with 4 /5 tablespoons of baking powder.
  2. Add lots of glitter and stars.
  3. Then add a big squirt of washing up liquid and mix it all together.
  4. Then take 2 separate cups and fill each with ¼ of white vinegar.
  5. Colour each one a different colour food colouring.
  6. Choose your first colour and when you are ready (on a suitable surface) pour in your vinegar to the potion jar.
  7. When the bubbles slow down try another colour.
  8. You should have enough for about 3 eruptions before needing more baking powder and water.

Top Tip

When enjoying this experiment inside, use a plastic tray to contain the potion when it overflows. If outside, remember to hose down the area after you have finished.
