How to Make

In June 2022, the Queen will be celebrating 70 years as the British Monarch – the first in its history. To mark this momentous occasion Brits will be enjoying street parties over an extra long Bank Holiday weekend.
On Sunday 5th June, there’s the Big Jubilee Lunch taking place, with 12 million Brits expected to attend street parties put on by amazing local organisers in Her Majesty’s honour.
Read on for some helpful tips to make sure you and your community have a wonderful Platinum Jubilee weekend.
What’s the Plan?
There are so many ways to bring the community together, from a good old British summer street party to a garden party with friends (also known as a Street Meet). The first thing to do is to get together a small efficient team as a committee, making sure each person has a specific task will make your life as the organiser much easier. With the big day soon approaching, be sure to give yourself enough time to get everything done.

Apply to Close Your Street
From Thursday 2nd June – Sunday 5th June anyone in the UK can hold a Platinum Jubilee street party. The government suggests planning at least 6 weeks in advance by simply filling out an application form on your local council website. You won’t need a risk assessment or license for alcohol consumption or playing music as Platinum Jubilee street parties are classed as one off events.
Spreading the Word
Once your application has been approved, it’s time to spread the good news to everyone on your street. A great way to tell everyone about your event is to get children to create colourful, eye-catching advertising posters and programmes for your Platinum Jubilee event. You could even make it into a competition and offer a special prize for the most unique design.
How to Decorate a Jubilee Street Party
Transforming your street into a red, white and blue extravaganza is easier than you think.
Drape a Union Jack Bunting between the houses to unite every house during this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Line the street with Union Jack Windmills, fly flags from the windows, and dress your street party table with this iconic Union Jack table cloth.
Get creative using string, ribbon, paints, coloured card – everything goes!
Head over to our Creative Station for free projects ideas around the Platinum Jubilee, such as celebration poppers and Union Jack Rosettes. We even have crown shaped place cards – perfect for your Jubilee table setting.
Last Minute Meeting
Get everyone involved together the night before the big event. Make sure they know exactly what to do and what time set up begins. Your neighbours will be bursting with excitement seeing all your hard work come together.
The Main Event
Helpers and volunteers should arrive in good time to set up chairs, tables and your Platinum Jubilee decorations. Simple things like knocking on doors that morning to encourage your neighbours to come and join in the celebrations will help to make everyone feel included.
With everything planned, prepped and executed to perfection, we know you’ll have a fantastic time with your friends, family and neighbours.
