Top Tip
Instead of the traditional cardboard method, you could also use one of our Pom Pom Makers to make the pom pom.
How to Make
- To make the pom pom first download the circle template provided and cut out two from card. Ask an adult to help cut out the middle section of each circle.
- Place both of the card circles together, then using a pen, mark the circle into thirds.
- Measure approx 10 metres of light brown wool and cut it into long strands. Then measure approx 10 metres of dark brown wool and cut it into long strands. Cut an additional strand of wool to approximately 20cm and put to one side.
- Take the wool strands in both colours, then wrap these around two-thirds of the pom pom maker until you have used all of the wool up.
- Measure approx 10 metres of white wool and cut it into long strands. Then wrap these around the last third of the pom pom maker until you have used all of the wool up.
- Carefully cut the wool through the middle of the two card circles until you have snipped the whole way across.
- Using the 20cm piece of wool you set aside earlier, wrap this underneath one of the card circles and tie tightly with a double knot. Snip through each card circle to remove from the pom pom.
- Take some scissors and trim the pom pom down until you have a full and neat looking circle. Then trim back the white wool into a point to create the hedgehog snout.
- Cut out some small ears from brown self-adhesive felt and stick these to the pom pom. Then stick down two wiggle eyes and a mini black pom pom for the nose using glue.
