Milkshake or smoothie straws are thicker than regularly sized straws and are useful for printing the circle patterns. Practice making some patterns onto scrap paper before painting onto the pig.

  1. Before you start, remove the plastic plug from underneath a ceramic piggy bank. Stand the pig on some scrap paper then brush metallic paint all over the body and leave it to dry. Turn the pig onto its side to paint the underneath and under the feet. Add another layer of paint if you need to and leave it to thoroughly dry.
  2. Put some paint onto a plate or mixing tray. Choose colours to stand out clearly on the piggy bank. Dip the end of a straw or a small tube into the paint then press it onto the surface of the piggy bank to print a flower design, or make another pattern. Wait until the first colour has dried before adding a second colour or adding an overlapping pattern. You could also paint a design with a brush. Leave to dry.
  3. Stick gems over the pig’s eyes and replace the plastic plug underneath.
