Top Tip
You can paint some wooden people to create characters for the doll’s house.
How to Make
Step 1
Firstly, using the template, draw and cut out the mezzanine section from card. Next, print out the brick wall, roof tiles and flooring onto paper. Cut and stick the brick pattern on the outside walls and stick the flooring to the wooden base of the dolls house and the cardboard mezzanine. Try to match the pattern as best as possible. Once done, mark out where you want the mezzanine partition to be on the walls using a pencil (try to put the mezzanine as close to the middle as possible), then stick pastel printed paper on the back walls. You can use different patterns for each room. Use your pencil line as a guide where to stick the printed paper up to. You will need to use 4 sheets to cover the entire wall, so make sure to match the pattern for a seamless finish. For the side walls and ceiling, you can paint them using acrylic paint or cover them using card/paper. Assemble the walls and flooring together, then glue the mezzanine in the middle of the assembled dolls house.
Step 2
Bed: Using the template, print and cut out the mattress from A4 white card and the pillows and duvet from felt. Paint the bedframe using acrylic paint. For the mattress, fold and stick the flaps together. Put the mattress onto the bedframe and then stick the duvet on top. For the cushions, stick two sides of felt together. You can leave a gap and fill them with stuffing to make the cushions 3D. Remember to close the cushion after filling with stuffing.
Step 3
Lamp: Using the template cut out the lampshade and lampshade support out of pastel yellow card and stick the sides of the lampshade together. Then, hole punch the centre of the lampshade support. Cut a length of cotton string and tie it to the lampshade support. Then, stick the lampshade support inside the lampshade. Lastly, stick the end of the cotton string to the ceiling of the dolls house.
Step 4
Stairs: Using the template, print and cut out the staircase from white card. Score along the lines (get and adult to help you). Then, fold and stick the flaps together to form the base of the staircase. To finish the stairs, concertina fold along the lines and match and stick the concertina folds on the base of the staircase.
Step 5
Sofa: Paint the sofa brown. Using the template, cut out the sofa cushions and lightly score along the lines (get an adult to help you). Fold and stick the flaps together to form the cushions. For the decorative cushions, stick two sides of felt together. You can leave a gap and fill them with stuffing to make the cushions three-dimensional. Remember to close the gap after stuffing.
Step 6
Room accessories: Design a picture/poster for one of the rooms. Do this by drawing a picture using fibre tip pens, you can draw your favourite animals, your family etc. For the rugs, using the template cut a rectangle out of yellow felt and a circle out of blue felt.
