Top Tip
To make the giraffe extra sturdy, ask an adult to stick the cardboard tubes together using a hot glue gun. This will also speed up the drying time.
How to Make
- To make the giraffe, take five cardboard tubes and paint them yellow using acrylic paint. Leave to dry then apply a second coat of paint on top. Leave to dry.
- Take two of the tubes, cut one end of each tube at a slight angle. Use a hot glue gun to slot the tubes together at a right angle (ask an adult for help with this step.)
- Take a third tube and cut it in half so you are left with a shorter piece. Use a hot glue gun to attach this to the neck of the giraffe (ask an adult for help with this step.)
- With the last two tubes cut them in half and then down each side so you are left with four flat pieces of card, square in shape. Roll these pieces into a thin tube each and then use a hot glue gun to stick the edges together (ask an adult for help with this step.)
- Cut out four strips from brown foam and stick these onto the bottom ends of the thin tubes to make the legs. Use a hot glue gun to attach the legs to the body piece (ask an adult for help with this step.)
- Take a yellow pipe cleaner and cut it to approximately 8cm in length. Cut out a small tail piece from some brown foam and stick to the end of the pipe cleaner, then stick the other end of the pipe cleaner to the inside of the card tube using tape.
- Cut out some giraffe spots from brown foam and stick these to the body. Cut out some ears from yellow foam and stick these to the top of the giraffe’s head.
- Draw on some nostrils using a black pen and stick down two wiggle eyes to finish.
