Cactus Trinket Tray

Top Tip

Before starting, make some clay slip by adding a little water to some soft clay and mix it with a fork.

How to Make

Step 1

Cactus Trinket Tray

Firstly, roll out your clay to approximately 0.5cm thick and cut out a circle, ours was 11cm diameter. Slightly turn up the edges of the clay. To help the edges stay in place, you can use smaller sections of foam board or cardboard around the edges.

Step 2

Then, shape some clay into a cactus shape, you can shape the cactus around a cocktail stick or pipe cleaner to make it sturdier. Score the centre of the clay tray and bottom of the cactus.

Step 3

Add some slip to the scored areas of the tray and cactus and firmly stick the cactus to the circle tray. Set aside to dry overnight.

Step 4

When the clay is dry, paint the cactus a lighter shade of green and the trinket tray white, with a gold rim.

Step 5

Using a cotton bud, create white dots along the darker green lines. When the paint is green, cover the entire trinket dish with varnish.
