Bee Slime

Top Tip

If the slime is sticking to your hands just add some contact lens solution and continue to knead it.
Please note: The slime is formed by a chemical reaction between the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in the glue and the borate ion from the boric acid in the contact lens solution. We therefore recommend that the recipe is not altered, as the chemical reaction needs these ingredients to work. Please make sure that the making of the slime is supervised by an Adult. After making / playing with the slime we recommend that hands are thoroughly washed. This Slime is not edible. If your child has any allergies, please make sure you check the ingredients of each of the components. If any signs of reaction appears on the skin, please wash thoroughly and stop use immediately. If in doubt, please seek medical advice.

  1. Add approximately eight tablespoons of PVA glue to the mixing bowl.
  2. Add about half of that amount of shaving foam.
  3. Add a teaspoon of baking soda and some yellow food colouring and mix together until the mixture is all the same colour.
  4. Add about one tablespoon of contact lens solution to the mixture and start mixing it together.
  5. If done correctly, everything should start to stick together.
  6. Continue to add contact lens solution until the slime has formed and is no longer sticky to touch.
  7. Take the slime out of the bowl and place to one side. Repeat steps 1-3 using black food colouring.
  8. Stretch out the yellow and black slime and lay them next to each other on a flat surface.
  9. Twist the two slimes together to make a stripy yellow and black design.
  10. Put the slime into the jar.
  11. Take a black pipe cleaner and cut it in half, then place the ends of each pipe cleaner into the top of the jar at the back.
  12. Place the lid onto the jar, over the top of the pipe cleaners, to hold them in place.
  13. Bend the pipe cleaners upwards and trim them to the desired length.
  14. Next, bend the ends over to make the bee's antenna.
  15. Take a sheet of pastel-blue paper and cut out a wing shape that is wider than the jar.
  16. Make sure the two wings are joined together in the middle as this will help to stick it to the jar.
  17. Stick the wings to the back of the jar using double sided tape.
  18. Stick two jumbo wiggle eyes to the front of the jar and use a black glass pen to draw a smile underneath the eyes.
