How to Make

  1. Break off a large, palm-sized piece of white clay and mould into a shallow thumb pot. Press an LED tealight into the dip in the centre and press down until you are satisfied with the fit. Model the edges of the pot as required with your fingers until they are all even and smooth.
  2. Leave your pot for roughly half an hour then choose the pen lid you are going to use to create the texture. Press the end of the lid gently but firmly into the clay repeatedly, all across the outside, to achieve the pattern.
  3. Leave your pot to dry. Mix pastel shades of porcelain paint and apply a thin layer to your tealight holder. You won’t want to load the brush too much otherwise it will clog up the indentations and spoil your patterns.
  4. Leave to dry. You can touch up any areas of the pattern that the paint hasn’t fully covered with a fine tipped paintbrush.

Top Tip

Make sure your pot is sturdy with thick 'walls' before starting to apply texture otherwise it will lose its shape.
