Top Tip

If the crinkle pattern has too many white areas when you unfold the T-shirt, carefully drop some more dye over the fabric (both sides) while it’s still damp.

Before you start: Soak a T-shirt in a bowl of water then squeeze hard to remove as much water as possible, or rinse and spin dry the T-shirt in a washing machine. Follow the instructions in the kit for adding water to the dye bottle and applying it onto the fabric. To make a crinkle pattern:
  1. Cover your work surface with the polythene sheet from the kit then lay the T-shirt flat on top. Pinch the T-shirt between your fingers to lift and crumple the fabric then push the folds towards the middle into tight crinkled bunch.
  2. Wear gloves from the kit to protect your hands. Squeeze dye over the T-shirt then press it with your fingers. Add a second dye colour or leave it with one colour if you prefer. Carefully turn the T-shirt over, keeping as many crinkles in the fabric as possible then apply dye to the other side. Leave the T-shirt to dry for 6-8 hour then open out the T-shirt.
  3. Rinse the T-shirt in water then leave it to dry out again. Cover the T-shirt with a thin cloth then press with a warm iron.
